You can FTP into your personal and departmental web space, using an FTP program. You automatically have access to your personal web space, but Web Services must get approval from your department head, director, or dean to give access your departmental web space.
Layout, icons, and menu options differ depending on the FTP program used. Leech FTP is used for the directions below.
Personal UIndy Web Space
- Open an FTP program and click Connect.
- Enter
melkor.is.uindy.edu
as the host name.
- Enter your UIndy username and password where indicated.
- Enter
www
as the remote directory.
- Click OK to connect to your personal web space. If you receive an error, ensure that you entered your username and password correctly and try again.

- Your web address will be http://pages.uindy.edu/~username/ where username is replaced with your UIndy username. (Please note that you must name your home page file index.htm or index.html in order for it to appear at the address listed, otherwise you'll need to include the name of the file after the listed URL.)
UIndy Departmental Web Space
- Open an FTP program and click Connect.
- Enter your departmental web address as the host name (e.g. biology.uindy.edu).
- Enter your
UIndy username and password where indicated.
- Enter
the name of your departmental share as the remote directory.You should have received this information from Web Services when your access was approved. If not, please contact Amber Weishaar (aweishaar@uindy.edu).
- Press OK to connect to your departmental web space. If you receive an error, ensure that you entered your username and password correctly and try again.
